Yes, definitely it is possible. Nutritionally speaking cats have complicated needs. For example cats require a high amount of vitamin A. Deficiencies in this vitamin could lead to hearing loss, skin and bone ailments as well as gastrointestinal and reproductive problems. In addition taurine is essential for cats to keep their eyesight optimal and cardiovascular system healthy. Conventional animal food producers supplement their food mostly with synthetically produced taurine, but some are still using taurine extracted from molluscs and thus derived from an animal source.
The American author James A. Peden has found a plant-based source of method to obtain taurine and other essential nutrients for cats. From this he developed two supplement feed which are highly recommended by veterinarians. These supplements can easily be added to the recipes he gives in his book.
